I’ve often said this before, but I say it because it works. Go outside and then come back into your shop and look around. Take notice of how your store is set up. Do you have crossover items displayed next to each other? Or is it just a lot of mismatched items that you displayed in a way that makes sense only to you? As store owners, we see our stores everyday and we tend to lose sight of how to best market our items to the consumer.
Visual Merchandising Marketing
One of your biggest assets is using your shop to market your products. Marketing does not stop at advertising with print or radio media; that is merely a starting point to help get customers in your door.Once they are in the door, you must continue your marketing strategy through visual merchandising. To do this successfully, look at all items you can cross-sell. What do I mean by cross-selling — utilizing all products to combine sales and work your marketing magic.

If you’re not combining items, then you’re missing out on sales. Let’s take wedding supplies. Look at how we can group them with other products to make more sales. One good way to visually merchandise wedding supplies is to display them near the housewares and table top products. You may be asking why? These are the items a bride and groom may need to set up their new home.
You already have a bride and/or her bridal party looking at wedding supplies, such as cake toppers or bride and groom toasting glasses. Think about your product placement and display housewares items and table top items near your wedding supplies. You’ll be employing one of the oldest marketing tricks known……subliminal selling.
