The Warrell Corporation had humble beginnings like any other American business, and since its start in 1965 the candy company has grown in its manufacturing success.
Warrell Corporation began as Pennsylvania Dutch Candies in the small town of Mount Holly Springs, PA, as a specialty candy manufacturer and food distributor. PDC was purchased by the Warrell family and remains family-owned. Today, Warrell operates to service the tourist trade and traveling customers through specialty retailers. Since 1965, Warrell has acquired Katharine Beecher Candies and Melster Candies, expanding into the ingredient, mainstream retail, contract, and private label customers.
“We focus on supplying gift shops, restaurants, and independent grocery, drug and hardware stores in tourist areas including airports, travel plazas, zoos, museums, theme parks, caves, and casinos,” Annette Jones said.
Warrell Corporation has developed unsurpassed capabilities in candy manufacturing, such as fire roasting and hot panning, artisanal chocolate panning, and chocolate enrobing. The fire roasting technique includes gas fired rotating copper pans that roast nuts to an ideal flavor and color. The chocolate panning system produces chocolate, yogurt, or fruit-flavored coating with a highly polished surface for candies with a fruit, caramel, or nut center. The Warrell facility also includes an enrobing area. Products are passed under a chocolate waterfall for an even coating.
The candy company continually strives to develop new flavors and snack options.
Currently new to the company is the private label hanging bag program. Jones said Pennsylvania Dutch Candies’ hanging bags are some of the most popular items, and the revolving 44-peg wooden tree is a hallmark throughout the country. This new private label is for retailers wishing to promote their own line of candies. With 25 best-selling varieties to choose from, cases include 12 bags and are available with a minimum order of 12.
Other new items offered by Warrell Corp. include cotton candy tubs available in original, cookie dough, s’mores, and birthday cake flavors. They also offer individual serve tubs of chocolate and peanut butter fudge, as well as 11 new honey spoon flavors!
The solid facilities, top-quality products, and innovative product ideas developed at Warrell over the past 50 years will help the company serve its customers for the next 50.
